The first step in applying for a job is writing a resume or CV. For fresh graduates and inexperienced job aspirants, learning how to write a resume can be costly if done wrong. The trick to writing a good resume is giving purpose to it. One must make a focused resume in order to highlight one’s strengths and edge among the others. This is especially helpful for people who haven’t had much experience.

For one to be able to write a resume one has to know what skills and job experience is relevant to the job one is applying for. Of course first, one must indicate what position one is applying for. The most relevant information must be the focus of the resume. Previous job experience will show what skills one has and how one has advanced in the field of profession one has chosen.

If skills and education is the more relevant information one has, then the resume must contain more of it than job experience. For fresh graduates who don’t have much job experience, educational attainment, skills, and academic achievements would suffice. Also, internships and seminars attended that are relevant to the position one is applying for would be a plus.

Of course the resume must also contain basic information that will let the employer know more about one as a person. Of course name, age, some educational background, and contact information. One has to provide all possible contact information one has. This includes mailing address, landline number, mobile number, and e-mail address.
