Job Resume Format – What is it?

resume Job Resume Format What is it?

In the world of resume building, there is more than one job resume format for you to choose from: there’s chronological, functional, and combination (chrono-functional, hybrid) resumes. How would a job seeker know the best format of resume to use for his or her situation? Do you really need to follow a format? And how many formats should be that?

The most commonly used among the three is the chronological resume format. It is simply a listing of your work experience and education in a progressive manner – you start from the latest, down to the oldest. The functional or creative resumes are just variations of the chronological format. They use headings that best showcase one’s qualifications and background.

The functional resume is a format that is ideal for job seekers with limited work experience. Employment dates, company names, and job titles are all intentionally omitted in a purely functional. It is helpful for fresh graduates entering the job market or homemakers making a comeback to the workforce. The purely functional resume has very limited uses but can be an excellent marketing tool if well done.

As the name suggests, the combination format is the combined result of the chronological and functional formats. Here, you start with a rundown (functional format) of your qualifications, skills, and accomplishments. Then, written in the chronological format, a work experience section supportive of your summary statements follows right after. This format is well accepted by some employers and becomes considerable in some circumstances.
